Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Coach McDonald is a graduate of Penn State University with a B.A. Degree in Speech Communications. He came to the Houston area in 1984 as a player with the Houston Dynamos Professional Soccer team. He resides in Houston. He is married to the former Tracy Stokely and they have two boys: Benjamin and Christopher. Coach McDonald served as the assistant coach for the Houston Hotshots Professional Indoor Soccer team from 1993 through 1997. He has also coached at St. Thomas H.S. and at Friendswood H.S. He holds an "A" license with the United States Soccer Federation. He was named National Soccer Coaches Association Regional Coach of The Year in 1992 and 1997.
