FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I pre-register for the exam?
No. Your son will pay the $50 testing fee on the day of the exam when he checks in to the testing building.
How do I send my son’s scores to more than one high school?
At the beginning of the exam, your son will be asked to indicate his high school preference in numerical fashion on his Scantron form. He will 'bubble-in' his 1st choice, 2nd choice, and 3rd choice high schools. All of the schools that he 'bubbles-in' will receive his test scores.
If my son puts Jesuit as his 1st choice school, will that increase his chances of being admitted to Jesuit?
No. Strake Jesuit does not consider whether an applicant chooses Jesuit as his 1st, 2nd, or 3rd choice high school. His selection of Jesuit as his 1st, 2nd, or 3rd choice high school will have no effect on his application to Jesuit. Please note, the above policy applies to Strake Jesuit only. Each high school has its own policies regarding high school preference, so you should check with each individual high school about their particular requirements.
If my son takes the exam at Jesuit, will that increase his chances of being admitted to Jesuit?
No. Strake Jesuit does not consider an applicant’s testing location during the admissions decision making process. You son’s testing site will have no effect on his application to Jesuit. Your son is welcome to take the entrance exam at any of the Catholic high schools offering the exam. Please note, the above policy applies to Strake Jesuit only. Each high school has its own policies regarding testing location, so you should check with each individual high school about their particular requirements.
May I use a calculator?
No. Calculators are not necessary and are not allowed during the test.
Do I need to bring my own pencil?
No. Pencils will be provided in the testing room. However, you may bring your own pencils if you wish.
If I don't know the answer to a question, should I guess?
Yes. You are awarded points only for the questions you answer correctly. No points will be deducted for wrong answers, so it is best to guess if you are not sure of the answer.
When will I receive my son's test scores?
If you applied to Strake Jesuit, we will send you a copy of your son's scores in mid-March along with his decision letter.
Are there study materials or sample tests available for the HSPT?
Many optional study materials are available online and in bookstores that include study tips and full sample exams. Strake Jesuit does not endorse any particular study aid.
