Jesuit Wrestling
The Strake Jesuit wrestling team has been in existence for 8 years. In that period, the team has moved from the Texas State Private School League to competing in the UIL public school league. Our program has produced multiple outstanding wrestlers and one state UIL champion (Steve Nijoka 2007).
Becasue the sport of wrestling has been growing in popularity over recent years and many students expressed interest in such a program, wrestling was introduced as a sport for the 1999-2000 season. About 45 students participated in the first year of the Jesuit Wrestling program.
The sport of wrestling avails itself to athletes of any size. Strength, agility, and the ability to perform skilled moves under pressure are what sets one athlete above another. Wrestling is a sport that requires great preparation. Matches are won when an athlete can mentally and physically out-maneuver his opponent.
