COLLEGE COUNSELING

At Strake Jesuit College Preparatory close to 98% of the senior class chooses to pursue further study at a four year college or university. Strake Jesuit considers one of its goals to be the students' thorough preparation, both spiritually and academically for the college years. We also believe that the four to six years following Strake Jesuit might very well be the most important years in terms of career choice, friendships chosen and developed, expansion of beliefs and thoughts and, of course, his intellectual development.

With this in mind, the college counseling department encourages all of Jesuit's students to make the most informed decision possible by utilizing the many resources available. With such qualified and competitive students going to college each year, it is our hope to guide and advise students on their options and possibilities in the years to come.

College can be one of the most influential periods in a young man's life and it is our goal to prepare students for the college process and make them aware of the many requirements they will face when applying to college. The process should really begin as a Freshman in determining ones high school courses, however, "official" college counseling does not begin until the spring of the students' junior year.

The department will meet with parents, discuss options on their search, help in the decision making process, discuss financing one's education and inform them about scholarship opportunities, direct students to the proper resources available to them and give presentations throughout the year on the college search. We are here to help parents and students make informed decisions concerning an important period in their lives.
