Taylor Charbonnet '14 has been named the recipient of the 2011 Capt. Andrew Houghton '97 Award. In its third year, the award is presented to a current Strake Jesuit sophomore "who best exhibits the characteristics and values" that Andy Houghton exemplified. Those include academic excellence, service to friends and the community at Strake Jesuit and beyond, an enthusiasm for life, and a determination to succeed.

Capt. Andrew Houghton '97 passed away on August 9, 2004 from injuries sustained on July 10, 2004 while serving in Iraq. He was a Captain in the United States Army with the 1st Squadron, 4th Calvary.

John is a member of the National Honor Society at Jesuit. As a freshman he played football, lacrosse and wrestling and as a sophomore will play lacrosse and wrestling. His family has a strong Jesuit education connection at other schools that includes his father and grandfathers plus cousins who attended Strake Jesuit.

The award will be presented at an Awards Dinner on Thursday, November 10, 2011 to be held at Strake Jesuit in the Clay Center Atrium. The dinner will be hosted by the Captain Andrew R. Houghton Foundation and proceeds will benefit the Captain Andrew R. Houghton Financial Aid Scholarship at Strake Jesuit.
