Erick Lara '20 Appointed to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point

In the spirit of Jesuit education, it is no surprise when one of our own decides to take the extra step and answer the call to service as a Man for Others. Erick Lara ’20 will be attending the U.S. Military Academy at West Point this fall. He joins the ranks of Strake Jesuit alumni who have gone on to serve their country.

“Erick will make an outstanding military officer; with unprecedented discipline and intelligence he will lead his troops by example. Erick will be a caring, loving, faithful, compassionate officer while maintaining the highest expectations of the men under his command,” Coach Mike Kerley said.
During his time at Strake Jesuit, Erick has been a member of the cross country and track teams. In cross country, he was honored as team captain and helped lead the team to another district championship, region, and state qualifying appearance. At the end of every practice, the team would meet for prayer and words of encouragement. Erick led these meetings and exemplified his role as a leader in faith and emotional strength for the team. In track and field, he served on the Leadership Council and has helped elevate the program over the last four years.

“He embodies what it means to be a Man for Others through mentoring our younger athletes and all his selfless work in our community. Erick stands for faith, honesty, and integrity, and these are all the qualities that will ensure he will not only succeed at West Point but any organization he is involved in,” Coach Chad Collier said.

Erick has left a significant impact on the cross country and track teams, and he will surely be missed. We are confident that he is ready to take on this exciting next step, and we cannot wait to see how he continues to be a leader and Man for Others as he serves the country.
