A Heartfelt Approach

By Jason Brown
It was the “moments where the faculty and staff went above and beyond” to help and understand him as a person, not only as a student, that allowed Alumni Service Corp member Mr. Jared Jimenez ’15, son of Operations Department member Mr. Alberto Jimenez, to understand that “Strake Jesuit is more than just a school.”

After spending last school year helping Strake Jesuit’s community navigate the pandemic, Jared decided to give back to Jesuit through a year of dedicated service to the “community of people who value every student’s worth.” Jared wanted to actively give back to a community that helped form him in high school and continues to have a profound effect on who he is today, so he joined the Alumni Service Corps.

“While attending Strake Jesuit, the sense of community and brotherhood were the driving factors in helping me become open to growth and a Man for Others. The community provided me a space to be vulnerable, to understand who I was as a person.” Jared wanted to return to that same environment of growth and give back using the tools Jesuit instilled in him as a student, and he has done just that.

Jared calls on these experiences each day he works with the young men of Strake Jesuit. English Department member Mr. Kevin Demen remarked that Jared has been a huge help in working with a student to bring up his grade in Mr. Demen’s class from failing to a solid B. Moreover, Mr. Demen has been witness to a “number of students opening up and talking to Jared about various aspects of life.”

It is the care for each student beyond the classroom that marks Jared’s personal approach to his job. Imbued with cura personalis, Jared approaches each student where that student is, making sure that student knows he is cared for by the SJ community. Jared leads with the heart and is proud to join his father in making the Jesuit community the wonderful place it is.

A longtime member of Jesuit’s operations staff, Alberto Jimenez has “helped the school in ways that cannot be fully paid back,” commented Mr. Demen. “Alberto, along with the operations team, is the heart of the school.”

Jared says that he and his father are “contributing to the same mission of the school and giving back to the community,” and that “is a great honor.”

From Jared’s service in and beyond the classroom to Alberto’s key role in maintaining the Jesuit campus and helping it run smoothly, this father-son duo has given their hearts to the students, faculty, and staff of Strake Jesuit, and for their service, the community is deeply grateful.
