Strake Jesuit Valedictorian and Salutatorian 2022

It is with great pleasure that we congratulate Mason Abrell as the valedictorian and Jonathan Taffet as the salutatorian for the Class of 2022!

Mason Abrell will attend Yale University and plans to study Physics and East Asian Studies. Mason has been very active in his community, whether that be co-founding HTT, a group dedicated to helping break the cycle of poverty, working at the Food Bank, or organizing relief efforts in his neighborhood during Winter Storm Uri. He was a part of Spectrum 3847, Strake Jesuit’s robotics team, where he was a subsystem lead. He was also in symphonic band, where he played the flute, and was a house captain for Bellarmine House. He founded the Fictitious Club, a fiction book club, and was a proud member of the SJ Roundnet Corps. Mason hopes to, after graduating from Yale, pursue a postgraduate degree in Applied Physics, and then work on major projects, whether in the public or private sector, that intersect physics and engineering in East Asia. Whether that be fusion reactors or communication arrays for satellites, Mason is excited to explore the world and the ways in which he can give back to it.

Jonathan Taffet will attend Texas A&M University and plans to study engineering. He served the community by altar serving at Mass, yearly service projects, and keeping count of birds seen at Strake Jesuit. Jonathan was involved in varsity soccer, photography for the communications department, he was Co-President of the Crusaders for Life Club, and the Tropical Thursday Club. Jonathan also takes pictures of birds. He hopes to be able to integrate his various passions: problem-solving, birds, humanities, and photography in order to help people, to help the environment, and most importantly, to serve God.
