Band & Orchestra

The instrumental music program combines talented students from both Strake Jesuit and Saint Agnes Academy.

The String and Symphony Orchestras

The string orchestra rehearses from 7:00 to 7:45 AM, every school day from Monday through Friday. This ensemble is open to all students who play violin, viola, cello, string bass, and harp.

Throughout the year, the orchestra plays at school functions, private engagements, liturgies and festivals. The ensemble averages between 15-20 performances per school year. Our repertoire includes works from master composers of the Baroque, Classic, and Romantic periods, but also includes contemporary works and movie scores.

Strake Jesuit's music program is the only private high school string orchestral program allowed to compete in UIL events in the Houston Area.

Two times a week, the chamber orchestra combines efforts with selected members from the Band to form the full Symphony Orchestra. Students enrolled in orchestral winds and percussion rehearse on Tuesdays at 7:00 AM and Thursdays from 3:05 to 3:50 pm.

The Symphonic Band

The Symphonic Band is made up of students from St. Agnes Academy and Strake Jesuit College Preparatory. The Band is one of the largest organizations on campus. The Band serves as a Pep Band during football season and performs as a Symphonic Band during the remainder of the school year. The Symphonic Band gives a Christmas Concert and Spring Concert each year, in addition to competing at Concert & Sight-Reading Contest, consistently earning top awards at competitions. This ensemble is open to all students who play a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument and rehearses Monday through Friday during zero period from 7:00 am-7:45 am in the Parsley Center of Strake Jesuit College Preparatory.

The Jazz Ensemble

The Jazz Ensemble is made up of students from St. Agnes Academy and Strake Jesuit College Preparatory. The Jazz Ensemble performs jazz, swing, big band, blues, pop, salsa, funk, and rock music. The Jazz Ensemble gives several performances a year, including a Christmas Concert, Open House, and a Spring Concert. The Ensemble is made up of saxophones, trombones, trumpets, and a rhythm section, which includes piano, guitar, bass, and drums. The Jazz Ensemble rehearses Monday and Wednesday during eighth period from 3:15 pm-4:00 pm in the Parsley Center of Strake Jesuit College Preparatory.
