Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! There are a great many things happening as we begin the year. Below you will find important information about programs, activities and events that you need to be aware of as we begin the school year. We are looking forward to another great year for our students and our school community.

NEW FAMILY ORIENTATION AND COOKOUT
Friday, August 9 at 6:30 pm in the Parsley Center
Students and their families are invited to join us for a welcome orientation and cookout. We will begin in the Parsley Center where parents and students will hear presentations from key administrators. Next, we will all gather for a cookout in the Moran Dining Hall after the presentations. Many moderators, coaches, and directors will be available during and after dinner to help families learn about extracurricular opportunities at Jesuit.

MOTHERS’ CLUB WELCOME BRUNCH
Monday, August 12 
8:00 am - Volunteer Sign-ups and Refreshments

9:00 am - Program Begins in the Parsley Center 

While freshmen attend Crusader Crew Freshman Orientation, the Mothers’ Club will host a general orientation and gathering for new parents. Arrive anytime between 8:00-9:00 am for refreshments and volunteer sign-up. More information about Mothers' Club will follow in the presentation beginning at 9:00 am in the Parsley Center. 

CRUSADER CREW FRESHMAN ORIENTATION (3 Days)

The Crusader Crew is a student organization focused on a yearlong freshman transition. Their goal is to enable freshmen students to acclimate to Jesuit quickly, be prepared for the year ahead, and grow in ownership of their Strake Jesuit experience. The Crusader Crew will lead freshmen through orientation with the help of faculty advisers.

 

Day 1: Monday, August 12 from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm beginning in the Competition Gym 

Day 1 will focus on getting to know classmates and student leaders, as well as beginning the process of building the distinctive Strake Jesuit community.

Students will receive their iPads as part of orientation and matriculation. In preparation for this distribution, parents are invited for an optional 60 minute Q&A about iPad’s at Strake Jesuit from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm in the Parsley Center. Click here to see here for more information about iPads at Strake Jesuit.

Freshmen: you should wear shorts and shoes appropriate to athletic and outdoor activity, with a T-Shirt of your choosing — we will provide a House T-Shirt for you to change into. You should be clean-shaven, with your hair cut according to Community Life  standards. Bring a refillable water bottle, a drawstring bag or backpack, your valid apple ID and password with Family Share already enabled, and your iPad Case.

Lunch is provided by the school. If you have special dietary requirements, a salad option will be available. You may also bring a lunch from home.

Day 2: Tuesday, August 13 from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm beginning in the Parsley Center 

Freshmen will participate in the second day of the Crusader Crew Orientation program with more activities focusing some of the practical details of Jesuit student life. The day will begin with a teaching Mass to better understand the religious nature and mission of our school. Freshmen will then receive their course schedules and meet each of their teachers, and will receive their digital textbooks. We’ll also continue building community and forming students in digital citizenship, cybersecurity, and the safe and proper use of their iPads. Freshmen should wear dress pants or “dress shorts” like khaki shorts, your House T-Shirt that was provided on Day 1, and closed-toed shoes. Remember to carry a water bottle. Bring your school-provided iPad.

Lunch is provided by the school. If you have special dietary requirements, a salad option will be available. You may also bring a lunch from home.

Day 3: Wednesday, August 14 from 8:00am to 12:00pm beginning in the Competition Gym

Freshmen will continue building community in their Crusader Crew small groups, which will now become their Advisory groups for the next four years. Some of today’s programming will also focus on the academic skills to prepare them for their first several weeks in class. During matriculation, students will hear from campus administrators and take their yearbook photos.

Freshmen will be dismissed at 12:00pm. Students are free to leave for home at that time unless they have other plans on campus. Lunch will be available in the Moran Dining Hall from 12:00 pm – 1:00pm for those who are staying on campus.Students who are having technical issues with iPads or digital books should visit the IT Help Desk in Moody Memorial Library between 12:00pm and 3:00pm.

Students enrolled in the Learning Resource Center are required to attend an Orientation Meeting from 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm in the Gray Lecture Hall (inside of Agee Hall). Freshmen should wear dress pants and shoes (as in the regular school dress code), with a button-down shirt and tie for his yearbook photo. TRANSFER STUDENT ORIENTATION

Wednesday, August 14 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm beginning in the Counseling Center inside Moran Hall

Orientation will include a campus tour, small group sessions focusing on school traditions and student life, presentations from school leaders, and matriculation with your class. Students will also receive their iPads during Transfer Student Orientation. MATRICULATION 
Wednesday, August 14 in the Parsley Center according to the times below 
Matriculation begins in the Parsley Center. Seniors will be in regular school dress. All other students will be in shirt & tie for Yearbook photos. Students must be clean-shaven and have their hair cut according to standards in Community Life . Students will receive information about lockers via their Strake Jesuit email.

Freshmenwill go through Matriculation as part of their Orientation Day 3 described above.

Sophomores: 9:15am – 11:45am

Juniors: 12:15pm – 2:45pm

Seniors: 1:30pm – 2:45pm

FIRST DAY OF CLASS
Thursday, August 15(Coat & tie required)

We will celebrate Mass on the first day of school for the Feast of the Assumption. All students are required to wear coat and tie. It will be Day 1 and we will be on Morning Assembly Order.
