Chris Martin ’26: A Model of Compassion and Leadership at Strake Jesuit

By Tommy Romano
In the busy halls of Strake Jesuit walks a very humble young man who embodies the motto Men for Others – Chris Martin, a sophomore whose journey from Corpus Christi Catholic School to Strake Jesuit is not just marked by academic excellence but also by a deep commitment to serving others.

Chris’ connection with Strake Jesuit began at a track workshop hosted by the school. Inspired by the spirit of community and excellence, he decided to apply, seeking a place where he could not only develop academically but also contribute meaningfully to the world around him. Little did the school know that they were gaining not just a student, but a compassionate young man with a profound sense of purpose.

It was during his time at Corpus Christi Catholic School that his passion for reading and helping others took root. While there, he founded “Chris’ Library,” a non-profit organization dedicated to providing books, school supplies, and snacks to underserved middle and elementary school children. The driving force behind this initiative was Chris’ love for reading. He wanted to ensure that other children, regardless of financial constraints, could experience the joy of owning and reading books. Chris explains, “Reading what you have to read for school isn’t always interesting. When you have a book that is yours…that you can take home, makes all the difference.”

Despite being soft-spoken and unassuming by nature, Chris’ eyes light up when he talks about reading and sharing that love with others. His commitment to fostering a love for learning shines through not only in his words but also in his actions. Chris actively works towards involving more of his classmates in his cause, hoping to create a ripple effect of positive change within the Strake Jesuit community. Chris dreams of passing the torch of his non-profit onto his children one day, ensuring that the legacy of giving back endures through future generations.

At Strake Jesuit, Chris is not only a dedicated student but also an active member of the Black Student Union (BSU) and a valuable asset to the Track & Field team. Coaches describe him as “an outstanding young man and teammate,” highlighting his exceptional work ethic, goal-oriented mindset, and selfless nature. Chris Martin embodies the qualities Strake Jesuit hopes to instill in all its students – a true Man for Others.

In a world often characterized by noise and self-interest, Chris Martin’s story is a beacon of hope and inspiration. By creating “Chris’ Library,” he has demonstrated the profound impact that a single individual can have on the lives of many. As Chris continues to strive for excellence and give back to his community, he stands as a testament to the values upheld by Strake Jesuit – a commitment to service, compassion, and the unwavering belief in being the positive change you wish to see in the world.
