Admissions

How to Apply

Strake Jesuit is a Catholic, private, all boys, college preparatory school for young men grades 9 to 12 that develops leaders in a spiritual, Christ-centered atmosphere distinguished by academic success, extracurricular achievement and service to others. Based on the inspiration of St. Ignatius, the founder of the Jesuits over 475 years ago, the goal of a Jesuit education is for each student to realize that he is called to be open to growth, intellectually competent, loving, religious, committed to doing justice and a Man for Others.

Applicants should be academically prepared, willing to perform dedicated and consistent academic work outside of class every day, and be receptive to the various religious formation programs which are essential to the school's total program.

How to Apply

All applicants must complete/submit the following items (Click the items for more information):

List of 5 items.

  • 1. Complete the Online Application

    Freshman Applicants:
Applications submitted by the Priority Application Deadline (December 15) are guaranteed to be reviewed in the first round of applicants. Most prospective students apply by this deadline and most seats are awarded to this first round of applicants so it is advantageous to apply by the Priority Deadline.

If you miss the Priority Deadline, you should still apply. Applications submitted after the Priority Deadline but before March 10 may still be reviewed in the first round of applicants if seats are still available in the incoming freshman class.

Applications submitted after March 10 will be evaluated on a rolling basis if seats are still available in the incoming freshman class. Qualified applicants who apply after March 10 are likely to be placed in our wait pool, so applicants are encouraged to apply before the Priority Deadline in December to guarantee consideration in the first round of applicants.

Please note that the Priority Application Deadline of December 15 only applies to the application itself; supporting documents (recommendation forms, transcripts, standardized test scores, and entrance exam scores) are not due until January 15.

    Transfer Applicants:
The Transfer Priority Deadline is March 25. Any transfer applications received after March 25 will be evaluated on a rolling basis if there are still seats available in the applicant's grade.

  • 2. Submit Teacher Recommendation Forms and Record Release Form

Strake Jesuit asks that all applicants submit teacher recommendation forms from their current English teacher, Math teacher, and Principal/Counselor. Strake Jesuit accepts either the Catholic High Schools recommendation forms or the Houston Area Independent Schools (HAIS) recommendation forms – the choice is yours. If your son plans to apply to multiple private high schools, please consult with those schools to determine which recommendation forms they require.

Teacher recommendation forms should be submitted to your son’s teachers, who will complete them and then send them directly to the Strake Jesuit Admissions Office. To ensure that teachers get to know the student well, they should not submit recommendation forms before December 1. There are two options for submitting teacher recommendation forms to your son’s teachers:

         1) You can create a MySJ account (or access your pre-existing account) and send the forms directly to your son’s teachers from the Progress Page, which will enable them to upload the forms directly to our system, or

         2) You can download the forms below and either email them or print and deliver them to the teachers.

The Records Release Form should also be submitted to your son’s current school. You can download that form below as well.

  • 3. Take an Entrance Exam

As part of the application process, Strake Jesuit requires that all applicants who are applying as incoming 9th or 10th graders take an entrance exam and submit their scores to the Admissions Office. 11th or 12th grade transfer applicants should submit PSAT results rather than taking an entrance exam.

Strake Jesuit offers and accepts both the Independent School Entrance Examination (ISEE) and the High School Placement Test (HSPT). Incoming 9th or 10th graders can take either the ISEE or HSPT to fulfill their entrance exam requirement. Keep scrolling to learn more about the two entrance exams, see test dates, sign up, or view the FAQ.
  • 4. Optional Items - Visit Strake Jesuit

Check out the Visit Strake Jesuit page for more details.
  • 5. Optional Items - Apply for Financial Aid

We believe that the cost of tuition should not deter a student from attending Strake Jesuit and are committed to working with each family's unique circumstances to provide need-based tuition assistance.

At Strake Jesuit, we accept students based on their ability to succeed in the classroom; embrace our Catholic, Jesuit mission; and become a leader and Man for Others - NOT their economic circumstances. For the 2020-21 school year, approximately 18% of the student body will receive financial aid from a budget of $3.4 million. Awards range from $3,000 to full aid. Freshman applicants should submit their Financial Aid application by January 15, 2021 and transfer applicants should submit their application by March 31, 2021.
Please note that supporting documents (recommendation forms, transcripts, standardized test scores, and entrance exam scores) should be received by January 15 to guarantee consideration in the first round of freshman decisions (Priority Application Deadline). Scores for the January HSPT will be sent to Jesuit in time for applicants to be considered in the first round of decisions.

At this time, we welcome applications for the 2021-2022 school year.

Entrance Exams

As part of the application process, Strake Jesuit requires that all applicants who are applying as incoming 9th or 10th graders take an entrance exam and submit their scores to the Admissions Office. Strake Jesuit offers and accepts both the Independent School Entrance Examination (ISEE) and the High School Placement Test (HSPT). Incoming 9th or 10th graders can take either the ISEE or HSPT to fulfill their entrance exam requirement. The choice is yours!
COVID-19 Entrance Exam Update:
Currently, we do plan to host and require an entrance exam as part of the application process. However, because our students are currently engaged in remote learning and we have a “no visitors” policy in place, we are unable to open ISEE registration for our campus at this time. To maximize the possibility that we'll be able to host the ISEE on campus, we have tentatively moved the test date from November to January 9, 2021.
If conditions allow for our “no visitors” policy to be revised and entrance exams on our campus become a possibility, we will send out an update via email and open ISEE registration. Please complete the Prospective Student Inquiry Form to be added to our email list, which will enable us to keep you in the loop regarding entrance exam updates and any other important announcements throughout the school year.
If it becomes apparent later in the admissions cycle that requiring an entrance exam will put an undue burden on our applicants, we will revise our policy at that time. Currently, we still plan to host and require an entrance exam as part of the application process. If you have any questions, please call us at 713-490-8113 or email admissions@strakejesuit.org.

In the meantime, below are several options to take the ISEE in a socially distanced, secure environment. We encourage you to take advantage of these options to ensure that your son has an entrance exam on file.

  • Test administration services such as Prometric and Education Specialists are offering the exam in individual or small-group settings. You can schedule an exam directly with Education Specialists by calling Tami Clark at 713-461-7996.

  • Prometric is offering the ISEE Online At Home. Click here for more information.

  • Several schools throughout the city and state have opened ISEE registration for various dates throughout the admissions cycle. Please check with those schools to verify that they still intend to host the exam. As noted previously, Strake Jesuit plans to host the ISEE on January 9, but has chosen not to open registration yet.

You can sign up for any of the testing options above on the ERB website.
Please note that students are not required to take either entrance exam on the Strake Jesuit campus.

Beginning in the 2021-22 application season (for the incoming Class of 2026), Strake Jesuit will only accept the ISEE. Those applying in the 2020-21 application season (for the incoming Class of 2025) may still take either the ISEE or the HSPT to fulfill their entrance exam requirement.
