Every year, four students are presented with the Crusader of the Year award. This annual award recognizes one exemplary student from all grade levels who have demonstrated the characteristics of a Man for Others. This year’s awardees are Maylon Adams ’21, Mason Abrell ’22, Jackson Amorosa ’23, and Zachary Jones ’24.

Maylon Adams ‘21
Maylon Adams has a unique ability to bring people together. He is a good friend and teammate and is known for his ever-present smile and warm, generous nature. Intelligent, hardworking, and forthright, Maylon is a natural-born leader who is cognizant of the importance of giving and not counting the cost. He is always ready to take on a challenge while leading others to do the same. A man of competence, conscience, and compassion, he has left his positive and profound mark in our community and will no doubt use his many gifts to lead, shape, and change the world around him for the greater glory of God.

Mason Abrell ’22
Mason Abrell is someone who lives his life in a way that inspires others to be better. His teachers praise the thoroughness of his work, his valuable contributions in class, and his kindness in helping his fellow classmates. For the past three years, he has been an active member of the Engineering and Robotics Team while playing flute in the school band. As a junior, he added Roundnet and Model United Nations to his list of activities. He has an ability to work with others and positively influence his peers, which is why faculty members chose Mason to serve as Bellarmine House Captain and he will also be the Band Leader during his senior year. He is a warm and compassionate young man with loads of character and integrity.

Jackson Amorosa ’23
Jackson Amorosa always has a smile and is full of enthusiasm. He is a member of the Martial Arts team and is also a gymnast outside of school.  As a gymnast, he puts in multiple hours of practice and still gives his all every day in his classes. He is the type of person who is genuinely interested in learning and is willing to ask questions. He works hard and will always put in extra effort in everything he does. Jackson is truly a joy to have in the classroom.

Zachary Jones ’24
Zachary Jones is a diligent, hard-working, kind, and respectful student. He is a member of the Orchestra and is on the Water Polo team. His freshman theology teacher, Mrs. Morgan Lannen, noted that he sat front and center in her classroom and set an example for everyone else there. He shares insightful thoughts and works well with his peers. When working in groups, Zachary often took leadership positions and always goes above and beyond what is asked of him. He is at the beginning of his journey at Strake Jesuit, but it is clear that he already exemplifies what it means to be a leader and a Man for Others.
