Varsity Golf Wins District Championship!

The Varsity Golf program accentuated their phenomenally successful season by placing both 1st AND 2nd in the District Championship at The Wilderness Golf Club in Lake Jackson! After Wednesday's rain shortened the tournament to 27 holes, the team of Will Gillette, Alex Wang, William Suell, Dominic Green, and Baird Bright won the tournament by 17 strokes, and the team of Greyson Carr, Owen Gibney, Ethan Bradford, Luke Schwartzenburg, and Harry Hudgins edged out Dawson and Pearland to secure the runner-up finish. By finishing as the top two teams, both 23-6A teams that advance to Regionals will be from Strake Jesuit - a rare feat in the world of UIL Golf. In an all-time power move displaying our depth as a program, our B Team actually beat our A Team on Day 2!

But wait, there's more! At the conclusion of the 27 holes, there was a five-way tie for the individual first place honor, including THREE Strake Jesuit players, leading to a dramatic playoff. When the dust settled, Gillette (he's just a sophomore!) claimed the title of District Champion, while Carr and Wang (last year's champ) finished 4th and 5th, respectively. For the record, we also had players place 7th (Suell), 8th (Green and Gibney), 11th (Bradford), and 12th (Bright). Needless to say, the leaderboard was STACKED with Crusaders.

This was the sixth UIL District Championship for SJ Golf, and we now turn our gaze East, to the Regional Championship on April 20-21 at Eagle Pointe.
