Fr. Douglas Hypolite, S.J. Celebrates 50 Years as a Jesuit

Fifty years ago, Fr. Douglas Hypolite, S.J. entered the Society of Jesus at the novitiate in Grand Coteau, Louisiana, where he began his journey in service of God’s Kingdom. This year, we will also celebrate the 40th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood.

Before his ordination he worked at Strake Jesuit in the 1970s, the first of several times he has been missioned to the school. One of his first assignments here was Director of Student Affairs. After studying theology in Rome, he was ordained a priest and then missioned to Jesuit High School, Tampa where he served as Principal. Fr. Hypolite has been a leader in Jesuit secondary education throughout his life in the Jesuits. He currently teaches Spanish at Strake Jesuit, where his incredible gift for languages has been shared with countless young men. But his greatest gift to our young men has been the witness of his discipleship through prayer and his faithfulness to God’s call.

Ad multos annos, Fr. Hypolite!
