Daily Examen

At the beginning of 5th period (1:55 PM on Regular Order days), the entire Strake Jesuit community stops to pray the Ignatian Examen. This beloved prayer of St. Ignatius Loyola helps us to look back on the events of our day and recognize what God is doing within and around us. It begins with gratitude that we can call upon the God who knows us more intimately than we know ourselves. In the second section, we ask God to help us to see and feel rightly as we look upwards from our own circumstances to see Him gazing down upon the world with love. The third movement is to examine each moment of our day to recognize where we have failed to love God in thought, word, and deed. The prayer concludes with a confession of our sinfulness and a petition to God to grow into the person He calls each Christian to be.
