Debate Camp Registration

We are excited that you intend to register for camp. Here are some practicalities, details, and notes:
  • We strongly encourage attendance for the full camp schedule. Campers are expected to participate the entire time and all day, since most afternoons have scheduled practice rounds and students need to be able to participate for their sake, and the sake of their partners and opponents. We understand that scheduling issues, emergencies, and illness cannot be avoided; we ask for your consideration in otherwise ensuring that your camper is in attendance for the entire day. There are no options for partial attendance or pro-rated attendance.

  • Because camp staffing is planned well in advance, and expenses are paid beginning when you register, we cannot provide full refunds when students withdraw. On or before June 22nd, only partial refunds are available. After June 22nd, no refunds are available.

  • During registration, you will select a preferred style of debate, or you can remain undecided. While campers may come to the camp with some experience in public speaking activities, they are considered beginners if they have not been competing in their chosen activity: e.g., a student who has not debated Lincoln-Douglas rounds in a competition would be considered a beginner in Lincoln-Douglas. We will continue to work with students throughout camp to find the events and labs that match his or her needs.

  • After registration is full, incoming Strake Jesuit debaters should contact Mr. Scheller (bscheller@strakejesuit.org) for more information about potential spots in the camp.

  • We (or I) request that you accept the application for enrollment of the above student(s) in the Strake Jesuit Debate Camp on the dates set forth.

  • We consent for our student(s) to represent Strake Jesuit and participate in the Debate Camp activities approved by the school. We consent to the use of photographs/videotape taken during the course of Camp activities for publicity, promotional and/or educational purposes (including publications, presentation or broadcast via newspaper, internet or other media sources). We do this with full knowledge and consent and waive all claims for compensation for use, or for damages.

  • We know of no mental or physical problems which may affect our child's ability to safely participate in camp. We affirm that all important medical information, such as allergies, is provided to camp staff or will be provided in advance of the camp dates.

  • In consideration of Strake Jesuit's acceptance of this application, we, as parent/legal guardian/managing conservator, and on behalf of the student agree to indemnify and hold harmless Strake Jesuit College Preparatory and all its employees and agents from any claim or action arising from on or on account of camp activities, regardless of whether such claim or action is founded in whole or in part upon the alleged negligence of Strake Jesuit, its agent, employees, or representatives.
