Heger Davis ’25: Standing Tall in Every Way

Through these halls at Strake Jesuit have walked some highly intelligent, successful, and influential people. Every student is rooted in his formation of being a Man for Others through the five pillars of the Grad at Grad: religious, open to growth, loving, intellectually competent, and committed to doing justice. Heger Davis ’25 is one of these students.

It does not take much to quickly notice Heger in a crowd. Standing 6 feet 8 inches tall with red hair, his presence is immediately known. However, it is not his height that draws attention, but rather his smile, his inviting personality, and his genuine, jovial attitude towards everyone he meets.

Heger will attend the University of Texas at Austin and study Economics to continue his educational career and spiritual development. Coming in as a freshman, Heger made a big splash in athletics. During his tenure, he was a three-sport Varsity athlete with countless awards and accomplishments. Heger played football, golf, and basketball at the varsity level and even worked in time to play lacrosse his first two years at Jesuit. Having played all four years of football and being voted Team Captain by his peers, it is easy to see why Heger will be successful in everything he sets his mind to. Heger does not shy away from hard work, adversity, or the amount of fortitude it takes to earn success; in fact, he embraces it.

Heger’s teachers would agree that competing in athletics is a feat in and of itself, but to attack academics with the same meticulous attitude takes an incredible amount of motivation and discipline. Coach Stevie Rodriguez, a football coach and history teacher, saw just that in Heger: “[Heger] is one of the most competitive and motivated students I have ever had the pleasure of teaching and coaching.” It is this infectious approach to academics and athletics that inspires his peers and underclassmen to strive for that same level of success.

When asked which Grad at Grad category Heger gravitated toward the most, he said, “Open to Growth.” That feeling of being understanding and receptive to change and transformation could not be any more accurate. Through these four years, what seemed like setbacks at the time, only served as small victories while Heger battled through adversity (football injury), stepping away from one sport that he enjoyed (lacrosse) to pursue other avenues (like teaching himself how to golf), and taking on new challenges (playing basketball, after not playing for several years). Heger has accomplished all of these things at a high level, all while maintaining a high GPA and being a member of the National Honor Society.  All these little adjustments in Heger’s life have only widened his scope of what is important and given him a better perspective on how difficult life can get at any moment. It was working diligently through these obstacles and difficulties that made him the person he is today. A man of character, faith, and above all, a Man for Others.
