Varsity Wrestling Open Up Winter Break with the Clear Lake Falcon Invitational

The Strake Jesuit Varsity wrestling team traveled to Clear Lake High School early Saturday morning to compete in the Clear Lake Falcon Invitational. Despite the deluge of rain and power outages, the team competed very well and some individuals came back with hardware. Split across two gyms over the course of the day, the Varsity squad competed valiantly placing fourth overall, just four and a half points behind third place Brazoswood and eight points behind second place Clear Lake. Senior John Gabbanelli continued his pinning streak into the finals of the tournament however time was called on the match just as the Caney Creek wrestler’s shoulder blades touched the mat. Gabbanelli ends his pinning streak with 24 pins in a row. Gabbanelli still walks out of the tournament proud as he and Sophomore Jackson Ham earn gold medals in their second straight tournament. Seniors Emilio Aguilar and Kent Stovall both join the podium with bronze medals while Juniors Jack Hantak, Andy Haggarty, and Chico Holt place fourth.
