On April 12, 2026, the Strake Jesuit Dads’ Club hosted its annual Father-Son Luncheon. Dads’ Club President Kevin Boyle, Sr., highlighted the work of the Dads’ Club over the past year and the importance of fathers and father figures modeling the sacrificial love and compassion of Jesus Christ. This year’s keynote speaker was Marc Vandermeer, Vice President of Broadcasting and the Voice of the Houston Texans, and father of Strake Jesuit alumnus, Luke Vandermeer ’24. Mr. Vandermeer encouraged our students to follow their passions while keeping God at the center of their lives.
Following the keynote, Ken Lojo ’91, Principal of Strake Jesuit, presented this year’s Crusader of the Year Award recipients: Andrew Bowring ’27, George Vernau, III ’28, and Graeme Dillingham ’29. The senior award will be presented at graduation. This annual award recognizes one exemplary student from each grade level who has demonstrated the characteristics of a Man for Others.
Andrew Bowring ’27 is a quiet leader who exemplifies integrity, discipline, and academic excellence. While he excels in the classroom, his gifts extend beyond the classroom as an accomplished trumpet player and a standout member of our cross country team. Thoughtful in the way he carries himself, he earns the trust of those around him and serves as a steady mentor to both his classmates and to younger students.
George Vernau, III ’28 is the definition of quiet strength. Kind, generous, and guided by a Christlike heart, he consistently puts others before himself without seeking recognition. Even while carrying a demanding academic load, he performs at an exceptionally high level. In both the classroom and athletics, he is someone others rely on for steady, thoughtful support, lifting those around him through how he lives and leads.
Graeme Dillingham ’29 is a joy to be around. Whether in the classroom, on the track, or in the robotics lab, he leads with purpose and with a contagious smile. He’s deeply committed not only to his own growth but to the success of those around him, consistently pulling his teammates forward to the front instead of himself. Hardworking and humble, he excels in the classroom while always looking out for others, making him both an outstanding student and a dependable, loyal friend.
